A Special 40th Anniversary Night!!

The featured picture at the top of this post was taken from the rear of the Beverly Presbyterian Church on August 23, 1975 the night Kathleen Anne Clarke and I were married! It is hard to believe that 40 years have passed since that night! They always say that time flies when you're having fun and for the most part we've had fun, oh we've had our share of sorrows, the deaths of our parents, particularly Kathy's mother who died at the age of 48 from breast cancer, losses of favorite Aunts and Uncles, but those sorrows have been more...

It is Really All About Your Kids!

As a Parent, You Want to Take Care of Them and their Kids Forever!   Several years ago, we were in Virginia either taking my daughter Elizabeth to school or visiting. Either way we were driving down the main drag in Williamsburg when we received a phone call from the home were my mother was living. The home was requesting my permission to take away her phone, Mom suffered from Parkinson's disease and the medication she was taking often left her with very real delusions. These delusions often resulted in her thinking that people came in buses to take residents...

Andrew’s Birthday Leads to Memories of Two Scary Days!

Two Days When We Didn't Know What was Wrong with Andrew and Nick!   Everyone has them, you know those days  when things happen that you can't control, that scare you to death. Two of those days for me involve my two oldest sons,Nicholas and Andrew. The first day was the day that Nick had his seizure. He was 21 months old and it was just a typical day. My wife fed him spaghetti for lunch and put him down on the bed for a nap. She came downstairs and in a little while she heard a thud. When she picked him...

Dad watches proudly as Elizabeth runs her first 10K!! Yes, our Elizabeth!!

Cross-posted from EKKarn's Explorations A month or so ago our daughter Elizabeth surprised her mother and I, when she told us that on November 8th we had to go with her to Trenton, where she would be running a 10K!  It surprised us because she has never been athletic. She enjoys and follows sports, but never played any, or even showed any inclination to do so. When she had to run the mile in gym in high school, she mostly walked! Her brother Andrew ran cross-country as  did I, and I also continue to run, but not Elizabeth. This running surprise...

Moving Day – A Trip to Elizabeth’s new apartment near the University of Delaware!

So yesterday, we were away most of the day, moving my daughter Elizabeth into her new apartment. She will be in graduate school this year at the University of Delaware. She will be sharing an apartment with another grad student in her program. Their apartment is located about ten minutes from campus and the good thing for me, only 70 miles from our home. A nice relief from the 320 mile trek to William and Mary! While I don't miss the travel to W&M especially the traffic from Washington to Fredericksburg, I do miss seeing the campus! Anyway, the moving...

Graduation II – Peter graduates from Rutgers – Camden

So it's not often that you get to see two of your children achieve major milestones in their lives in the same month, but that is what we've been able to do this month. First, Elizabeth graduated from William and Mary and tonight our son Peter graduates from Rutgers - Camden!! The one good thing about tonight is that we don't have to drive 8 plus hours to get there, we only have to drive to Camden. The one bad thing about tonight is that we have to drive to Camden. But seriously we could not be more proud of...
