So for the most part I was successful in finding dead people today. Well, not really dead people just their death certificates. I went to the State Archives and found about ten certificates for my wife’s extensive genealogical research. On my way there are back, I continued this week’s musical journey and listened to a little Americana, roots, blues from Damon Fowler’s latest album on Blind Pig Records Devil Got His Way and a little folk/Americana from The David Wax Museum and Brad Boyer. So all in all, it was a good afternoon!!
Damon Fowler is a blues artist from the Tampa, Florida area. Devil Got His Way is his second album on Blind Pig. I listened to the first album Sugar Shack. Last week liked what I heard so when my emusic credits refreshed this week the latest was quickly downloaded!! Damon is a strong guitar player but also has developed as a lap-steel, dobro, and slide guitarist, who wows audineces at every show. Because of this versatility, he has worked with Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Johnny and Edgar Winter, Robin Trower, Gregg Allman, Jimmy Vaughn, Junior Brown, Rick Derringer, Little Feat, The Radiators, Chris Duarte, Delbert McClinton. (Not a bad collection of musicians!)
The music on this album is varied as Fowler rocks like Creedence on the opening track “We’ve Got a Good Thing”, slows it down for the ballad “After the Rain” and makes Leon Russell’s “Tightrope” his own. Then there’s the funky Little Featish “Fruit Stand Lady” and the swampy “Cypress in the Pines” So put it all together you have a really great album. From his website:

Having full command of his voice as an equal instrument to his guitar, Fowler can easily croon you to sleep as he could belt out a jump blues or a Creedence-like swamper. This kid has got the tools to take on the big stage.”
